It’s been five years since August 9, 2020, and it’s been five years of constant reflection. What did we do wrong? Were we not quick and decisive enough? Maybe we were too tolerant of the regime’s henchmen?
The only thing we know for sure is what we did right: everyone came out of their own accord, bravely, showing initiative. That’s why there were so many of us, why we were everywhere, why the creative momentum of the protest couldn’t be stopped. We didn’t look for someone to pass the buck to, which is why there were pockets of resistance in every courtyard.
Now there is a risk of losing this experience. Events get forgotten under the pressure of more pressing news, and politicians try to exaggerate their role, pushing ordinary protesters into the shadows. If we allow the experience of 2020 to be lost in the vortex of history, we will have to repeat our mistakes through pain. We will once again wait endlessly for a plan from politicians and hope for the mercy of the regime instead of preparing for a new uprising.
We will march in Warsaw to remind everyone of the values and form of the protest that started the modern wave of the democratic movement. To remind everyone of the determination, self-organization, and responsibility. Join the anarchist bloc!
