The miners of “Belaruskaliy” salt mines are preparing to picket against changes already applied to the Labour Code and against the new law “About pension insurance” which is going to be considered by Parliament. In accordance with the law, they made the appropriate registration with the local state bodies.
The picket will occur on October 2nd—on the day, when a session of Parliament will be opened.
The registration of the picket was signed by private persons, not by the independent trade union of miners. Moreover, as reported in the newspaper “Belorussians reports and market”, the leader of the trade union, Mikalai Novik, also denies the fact of the self-organised strike, which happened on 9 September 2007. Information about the Sep 9 strike was distributed via liberal opposition media by the Salihorsk local “Helsinki Human Rights Commitee” division. According to http://praca-by.info, another independent trade-union declared its support to the strike post-factum.
There’s an opinion, that conflicts between trade unions leaders, and their wish to avoid any responsibility, are providing a good chance to start direct libertarian agitation in the labour movement.
