On January 17, 2009 in Yekaterinburg a picket was placed against the fact of human rights violations in the sphere of mental health. The picket was situated near the monument in memory of Tatischev and de Gennin and was timed to one of the recent violations in that sphere, when a woman of Yekaterinburg was forcedly placed in a mental hospital. Woman’s health was injured. The judge’s ruling was to free her from psychiatric hospital. The organizer of the picket is “The Civil Commission on Human Rights” in Yekaterinburg. The citizen of the city Galina Sergeevna MAKLAKOVA became a victim of a conflict with her relatives during a funeral repast. As a result one of the participants of the argument called a brigade of psychiatric emergency and Galina Sergeevna was forcedly sent to mental hospital №3 of Yekaterinburg. Maklakova claims she was made to get into the ambulance, on the way to the hospital they threw a jacket on her head and were smothering her; they were beating her as well. After the hospitalization she was experiencing heart problems. On her arrival at the mental hospital she had refused to sign the agreement to hospitalization and the representatives of the hospital had to go to court. The judge didn’t find any grounds to oblige Maklakova to hospitalization and resolved to free the woman. Having legally recorded the fact of being beaten by the medical staff Maklakova brought an action against the hospital. However she was refused. It is not the first event of citizens addressing “The Civil Commission on Human Rights” with complaints about the facts of illegal forced hospitalization at mental houses and the number of such complaints doesn’t reduce.
