On January 18, 2009 on the way from Gomel to Zhlobin 60 tons of diesel ship fuel, mark “Gas Oil-AKA-305” ("Газоиль-АКА-305"), disappeared from a railroad fuel tank. The consignor of goods was the Belarusian limited company “Triple”, the consignee – the Latvian limited company “Ingrid “A”.

Gomel Transport Office of Public Prosecutor informed BelaPAN that on January 18, 2009 at 16.13 the Latvian railroad’s freight train left Gomel for Daugavpils (Latvia) with fuel tanks filled with oil products. After it had passed railroad station Soltanovka there was a persistent smell of diesel fuel on railway lines. When the freight train arrived in Zhlobin at 18.13 it appeared that one of the fuel tanks filled with 60 tons of gas oil was empty.

In order to clarify the situation a special commission was created. It consists of the specialists from the Belarusian railroad, the Transport Office of Public Prosecutor and The Centre of Hygiene and Epidemiology.

The preliminary investigation version of the loss of fuel is gas escape because of improperly closed lower locking arm of the fuel tank.
