Position of Belarusian Anarchists

  1. Participation in the protests. After some consideration and discussions, including those published on Indymedia Belarus and AD-Belarus websites, when the election campaign was concluded, many belarusian anarchists decided to join the protests against Lukashenko regime. In the times when protest mood is on the rise, we consider it not just weak-hearted but plain stupid to sit in the bushes instead of using words and personal example to spread our ideas among the most active members of our society.
  2. Political freedom. We think that ecomonic struggle should always go hand in hand with struggle for freedom. It is the absense of freedom that provides the state and the capital with the means of ecomonic oppression, the means they will inevitably use.
  3. Opposition. Our participation in the protests shouldn’t ever be considered as a support for the liberal opposition. We don’t support the liberal programme, nor the whole idea of struggle for power, and furthermore, we don’t believe that opposition leaders have ability to reach any tangible results in the fight against the regime. Nevertheless, we support participants of the protests in their struggle for freedom, and we think that anarchist principles of self-organization, solidarity and mutual aid can do more to bring this movement to victory than any leaders.
  4. Lukashenko regime. While hiding behind pseudo-socialist populist rhetoric, in fact Lukashenko not only cuts political freedoms and suppresses nonconformity, but also continuously undermines social welfare. Labour laws are favoring employers more and more, rent and living costs go up, education and medicine are crumbling and getting more expensive all the same, trade unions are subordinated to the state and don’t protect workers’ interests. We think that no state is “lesser evil”, this one especially, that’s why we stand against it.
