Yesterday in Minsk 27 people were detained during a meeting of the Young Front (MF Молодого Фронт) – a nationalist-conservative unregistered organization.

MF - separated from BNF youth organization, formed 10 years ago partly of the young people, which composed the nucleus of the street protests of 1996-1997.

Street protests were the originally basic direction of organization, then – to it is enlightenment – cultural activity. The members of the organization participated in the tent camps in Kuropatakh and over the October area. After 2001 as a result of a number of events MF it ceased to be the wing of party BNF and became an independent organization.

The first chairman MF of P.Sevyarynets serves a sentence – “chemistry” in Vitebsk region for the organization of protest action against the results of the referendum of 2004. In 2006 the chairman of the organization Z’mitser Dashkevich was osuzhden on the article “management the unregistered organization”.

Until today MF, from one side, does not play the leading role in the political field. From other side – existing “in the underground” the organization for previous irritates authorities, and it is convenient target for the exponential repressions against the youth activists.

Update: Most of those detained were released, with the exception of Oleg Korban and Z’mitra Khvedaruka – by them, most likely, will be produced charge on the same criminal article as Z’mitru.

Oleg Korban has been detained by the KGB 17:55, 05/02/2007

Oleg Korban’s relatives informed the Radio Svaboda that the young man had been detained at the KGB prison. Location of the Malady Front [Young Front] member Zmitser Fedaruk is unknown. His co-members do not exclude that he has also been imprisoned at the same place. But they do not lose hope and keep on duty at the Savetsky district court of Minsk.

Yesterday militiamen detained around 30 activists of the Malady Front [Young Front] during the seating of the central council of the organization. Then everybody but Zmitser Fedaruk was released. Oleg Korban was detained at his apartment when he was celebrating his birthday.

The youth activists consider that the lawsuit may be brought against Korban and Fedaruk for participation in the unregistered organization. It is to be mentioned, that it is for that reason that Zmitser Dashkevitch was sentenced for 1,5 years imprisonment. Four activists of the “Partnyorstvo” company of election watchers have already passed the term of imprisonment for the same reason.
